    First I heard of it

You have to bear other factors in mind too like the price of importing, exchange rates, Irish car prices etc, vrt is only a relatively small thing.

We brought in an 08 car last month, the vrt was 1200, even if vrt went up by 50% that'd be 1800, a years depreciation I more than that.

They wouldn't dare. This government will be teetering on the edge of an election cliff within 6 months if it doesn't get Budget 2013 right and that's not good for them or us.

Yes they would. Just look at the property rates that were promised to be revised (like a heap of other things) pre-election. Harvey Norman closed a shop a few weeks ago and solely blamed it on property rates.

A good few main dealers have gone into receivership this year already - the government will increase VRT to help a few more go under. Clueless.

Sorry to resurrect this - i couldnt see a more recent thread to my surprise.

If, as looks likely, VRT is increased next week, will it be effective immediately, or will it be from Jan 1. Currently trying to buy in UK/NI so want to know if i need to get it done this week !

    From 1st Jan.

Import quick if you are importing.

Supposedly band A changes to 4 bands A1 - A4 with A1 only retaining the 14% VRT. The only non electic car in the band will be the Yaris Hybrid.

    Band B changes to two bands B1 & B2
