On Saturday 11th, 125km around Connemara:

    http://www.greatspinoutwest.com/index.php?p=home

Name might be misleading as I'm sure the GalwayBay CC ran a similar named event back in June but I'm pretty sure this is a different event.

Waiting on a few bits from Bike24 & CRC to complete the new build on time for this one so gonna be some busy evenings this week as the parts start to arrive but looks like this will be its maiden voyage if the couriers stick to the plan!!!

The Great Spin Out West is a Charity Cycle in aid of Cancer Care West, now in its second year. Should be good!

Tough day on the bike today. Decided to cycle to the start which added 50 additional km's to the day (great idea this morning:rolleyes:). Good weather for the day so the spin out to Clifden with the tail wind was fast and the front group hitting 50 km for a few km into Clifden so very high average to Clifden and then the first of the climbs broke up the field with some small climbs into Letterfrack for the first food stop. Well stocked and decent choice. Headed off again to Leanune then against the wind and cycling into Leanune downhill at 20 km/hr while pushing hard summed up the wind for the day, right then and the next climb but thankfully the change in direction eased off the wind a bit into Maum for the second food stop.

From there then over the Valley wasn't as bad as expected but still tough and then left back in Oughterard and back against the wind for a very hard 20km. At this stage I was on my own for a while so back to the finish was cruelling while knowing I had another 25km on top of that home!

Nice set-up at the finish with the warm weather and nice burgers, would have eaten 10 of them but settled on 1 due to the cycle home. Finished with 175 km in just over 6 hours, about 1300 m climbing so tough enough but the wind really played havoc!

Volunteers all friendly and main junctions well manned so enjoyed the day although 1 issue: they were charging for water at the finish line and with a trek home I wasn't happy about that  and thought it was bad form to charge 2 euro for a bottle of water!

Fair play. I did this cycle today too and was happy to finish it in a good time considering the wind.

I'd agree witht he above...the 2euro charge for the water at the end of the event today wasn't nice considering the 35euro entry fee!

I forgot to reset my garmin this morning so todays ride doesn't show up on the 'strava' events leaderboard. Anyone know how to fix this?
