Hi really need advice, been saving up ages to bring my son away and just realised booked the flights with only half his surname, he has a double barrel surname and the second part is missing. My mam did the flight and checking in so i only noticed it now.

I m so upset because on ryanairs website it says its 160 euro for a name change per flight and i cant afford this.

I priced new flights but they're 400 euro!

What do i do? I really hope a boardsie can give me some advice

Call them now and explain. They've always helped me out when this has happened. But I always called straight away.

What is on his passport is what is important usually.

I'm pretty sure that Ryanair won't give you any grief on this.

From what you describe his passport says "Brian Murphy Smith" and his ticket says "Brian Smith" or "Brian Murphy". If you're travelling with him and your ticket says "Ann Smith" and your passport says "Ann Smith", I can't see them having any issue - it's pretty clear what the situation is. It's not like one says "Brian Jones" and the other says "Brian Smith" or worse, "Joe Smith".

Apart from anything else, you will already be checked in and the only time Ryanair will see it is at the boarding gate.

They are really looking to catch the situation where someone books a ticket for a popular flight before it becomes expensive and then sells it on once the price rises and not genuine mistakes like this. This issue comes up on boards regularly and in all my years of watching this, I don't think I've ever seen someone say they were stung by Ryanair because their passport says something like Patrick but their ticket says Paddy. In fact, people normally reply that Ryanair have changed it for free over the phone if they ring.
