I just get that feeling that for one last time Derval is going to show us what a championship performer she is and produce a great performance , wheter that is a medal, maybe who knows.

christine ohrougu got sliver tonight, all her top times have come in major finals.

    Fingers crossed for Derval:D

    How strong is your feeling?!

As it doesn't say on the official website, I can only assume that the top four will move on from each of the heats (to three semi final races). If that's the case she still have to peak and come into form to have a chance of even moving past the heats. As it stands there are four athletes in her heat with faster times this season. If it goes right and she sets a strong season's best to move on, I wouldn't put it past her to make the final, but if she can't do that her Olympics will most likely be over at around 10:30 tomorrow morning.

I think she'll be hard pushed to make the semi with only 3 to qualify. But there are 6 fastest loser spots, so she might take one of those. The semis are at 19:15 tomorrow night.

Hell hath no fury like a Derval scorned, and between Ankrom's media antics and everything else, I'm hoping we see pure rage executed over the hurdles over the next few days.

Here's her heat draw: Harper, Holder, Galitskaya and Yanit in it, with just three to qualify automatically. She will need to run a large season's best to qualify on paper. A low 12.8x might do, but it may need a 12.7 to be safe.

    Heat 4Monday 06 August 2012 - 10:26
Lane Bib Athlete Country SB 2012 PB
    2 3293 Dawn Harper USA 12.65 12.47
    3 1435 Brigitte Merlano COL 13.73 12.89
    4 2039 Jeimy Bernárdez HON 13.99 13.83
    5 1311 Nikkita Holder CAN 12.80 12.80
    6 2109 Derval O'Rourke IRL 13.02 12.65
    7 2857 Ekaterina Galitskaya RUS 12.78 12.78
    8 3102 Nevin Yanit TUR 12.61 12.61
    9 2364 Hyelim Jung KOR 13.06 13.06

I had doubts about Derval in Berlin in '09, and then I watched from the stand as she finished 4th.

I predict a late "withdrawal" by Nevin Yanit.

    Nevin yanit wont drop out.
she is such a snake it's terrible.
hears hoping she dosent get onto the podium

paddy power has derval at 200/1 , yes but do you remember win annailse murphy was 1/4 on to win gold medal. that shows how much he knows.
yes she wont win Gold but after that who knows.

The odds PP sets just reflect the market, not the actual winning chances of competitors.

13.54 got an auto qualifier to the semis - pretty miserable quality in that heat. Mairead Murphy would nearly have qualified for the semi from that.

Though, it does mean a fastest loser spot should be pretty doable.

    And they are ready......and away.

O'Rourke is going to have to wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

    12.91, and she's through! HURRAH!

Edit: Or should be as a fastest non-auto -qualifier!

That's a fine run. She'll surely go through as a fastest loser. She seemed to tail off in the last 30. Maybe she'll overcome that in the semis.

She's getting no luck with the draw. Toughest heat meaning that despite being 12th overall, she ended up a fastest loser, meaning she was always going to end up with a tough semi final. Such serious lobsided heats this morning.

She could qualify in 4th place if she runs quickly, but realistically she will need to beat one of Lolo or Porter, and also beat Zelinka (no hope of beating Pearson). It's a tough ask but do-able.

I can't see her finishing ahead of Pearson, Porter, Jones or Zelinka, barring falls or DQs.

Very tough qualification, but then it is the Olympics.

If it's a fast heat and she comes 4th in 12.75 then she may qualify, as the quality in the other 2 heats aren't as strong.

    Yes Pearson will win it.

    But after that its anyone's.

Porter has had a back injury and concerns if she was fit, colin jackson said reports from her camp suggest injury is progressing. but still cant see her in the form she was during last years world champs when she ran 12.56.

Zelinka is after having a tough heptahlon and plus a run in these 100m hurdles. she has never ran 100m hurdles in a single event at world level, though it takes bottle to win candian trials with lopes and felicen, and george.

Lolo fell in beijing, i think she will run well but you never know with her.

I think one will falter and derval will run like a demon. then fingers crossed other 2 semis are slower, which maybe looks the case. fingers crossed she can make an olympic final to add to her 2 European outdoor finals and world final in 2009:D

i find it hard to warm to her tbh...whenever she's interviewed she comes across as being a bit bitchy

    The semis are at 1900?

I think a sub 12.7 is needed for the final. Can Derval do this? I hope so!

I think she'll finish 5th (barring DQs or fallers) in 12.8x

    Hope I'm wrong.

Your being kind. No excuses as she gets 40,000 a year. If the boxers can medal with this funding than the least Derval can do is muster a final otherwise the money has been wasted. 160,000 grand in four years could get you a medal in the boxing which is what Ireland needs to gain international respectability.

Interesting theory. I'm sure you are aware that some of the boxers on 40,000 euro failed to win their national titles this year.

We have a hell of a final later tonight. Harper, Pearson and Welles are on fire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

It was a relatively soft final to qualify for, just like the Beijing equivalent. 12.70 would've got you through, which isn't exactly lightning quick.
