    Hello all,

I am considering buying a new used car, thinking about 08 oldest (to pay less on motortax) and I would like to go for diesel this time - to save some money on that too.

I have a budget up to 10k and it should be car with a size of Opel Astra or similar.

    Any suggestions welcome.

Have a look at the skoda Octavia might be a bit big for you don't know. The 1.9 tdi engine is reliable and very economical. You will get the lower tax and they are a comfortable car you can't really go wrong. We have a 2011 newer model 1.6 tdi and it's a lovely car the older is reasonably similar.

Hyundai i30, you'd either get a good one under budget or a cracking one on budget.

Uk ones have manufacturers warranty till 2013, dpf's aren't problematic, 5 star ncap, high spec, really long wheelbase so loads of room in the back. The 116hp 1.6 diesel is lovely

My mother got one of these, spec on them is nice, full heated leather, tyre pressure monitors, climate, auto fold mirrors, ESP, loadsa airbags, all colour coded, factory parking sensors etc. great to drive too.

Didn't pay that much though ;)

Would you get an 08 Skoda Octavia diesel for 10k though ?

I'd imagine you would get a 2008 old model for 10k easy enough if you have a good look around on the internet if you could get one it would be a great car at that kind of money.

Just had a quick look on carzone and there is a lot over 10 k but over half are about 10 k so there in a garage so you would get one for 10k handy enough only thing is it might only be an ambition model and the top spec elegance would be a bit more. Although the ambition is still a good spec. They would be even cheaper to buy privately

Anyone any ideas on what you'd pay for a decant 7 seater diesel. Make not important as long as it's reliable. A safe one for grandkids.

I always thought the Opel Zafira is a great 7 seater. You wouldn't pay big money for a petrol one but they are very hard on petrol. If you can at all pay the extra and buy a diesel one then it's a great car. Have a look on carzone and donedeal if you go back a good few years you would get a good deal on one. Out of all the 7 seaters at the lower price bracket I would go for Zafira just simple and practicle car.

Actually looked at one and what worried me is how close the two rear seats are to the back door. If someone rear-ended you I would fear for the kids sitting there. No room for bags either.

I know what you are saying but most 7 seaters have these small boots. We had one a few years ago and my mother absolutely loved it and since then we have had 4 new cars all of a way higher value and she still talks about the 2000 diesel Zafira. She loved the way it handled and she was in a minor crash in it and the car stood up well so they seem to be a very sturdy strong car if your worried about safety
