A friend told me that if you achieve a specific number of points, depending on which course you do, you get €1200. Is this true?
I've searched the UCD Scholarships page (see link) but can't find anything on it :/

Some of the scholarships, like ad astra, have a stripend/bursary but it doesn't say how much.

I actually managed to find this:

    http://www.ucd.ie/registry/admissions/entrancescholarships/

    http://www.ucd.ie/t4cms/entschol.pdf

This seems to be what my friend was talking about, the scholarship is €1270.

The date on these links is 2010/2011. Does anyone know if this scheme is still in operation? I can't find any current information about it. Just a scheme to recognise people having over 540 points which doesn't seem to have any bursary involved.

It's not something to really bother thinking about. If it exists and you're eligible, the college will inform you. If it doesn't they wont. Don't spend time thinking about it and hoping for it, and then if it is something you get later it'll be a nice surprise/bonus. UCD are pretty broke so it's very possible these schemes aren't running anymore or the bursaries have been reduced etc.

I was wondering the same thing, but I have some reasons to find out. I got 530 and that's the 2010 points for my course's scholarship, but I'm unhappy with two of my grades and might appeal them, but not if the scholarship is still there because I don't want to risk losing it. Is there any way I can find out? I'd call them, but I don't want to sound like I'm broke or something. :o

Recheck your papers with a teacher before appealing them. Then it's less likely a grade will go down. The points for those scholarships may go up this year though, with the extra 25 points for HL Maths. But definitely look at the papers yourself first, then you should kinda know if you deserved a better grade instead of just appealing & hoping for the best.

Oh of course, it's just one is English and one is French so the first is subjective and in the second I probably won't know my oral mark, so it's a little risky either way. Thanks for the advice. :)

I thought you would at least get the mark for the oral? I'm really wondering if that scholarship exists this year, because it isn't mentioned on the UCD scholarship page & there isn't even info on it for last year. I think the points you're looking at are probably from 2010/2011. There seems to be nothing in relation to it for 2011/2012. I definitely wouldn't get my hopes up/depend on it cause it isn't looking hopeful.

Nope, unless the examiner happens to write your overall mark on it, in which case you can subtract the marks out of 300 from the total to get it - otherwise it's an estimate.

Yeah I didn't need it, I just had it in my head that it'd be nice and was surprised when I would have qualified, but I guess it's not the end of the world. :P

That's a bit stupid really, they should give all marks. Although you should be able to get an idea of the grade & know if it sounds right.

I know it'd be nice, but it would suck for everyone to get their hopes up & the scheme not be there.

I really think that's this is the case, UCD's run out of money and has stopped all these bursaries except for the 600 (probably now 625)points one and anyone with 540+ gets a cert.

They didn't change the requirement to 625 points, it's now getting 6 A1's, so it can be 600 (no maths) or 625 (with maths)

As far as I know they're awarded automatically but you could look at the UCD website under bursaries or scholarships. I think those ones are called "Ad Astra" or something like that.
