Thailand Itinerary Question

    Hi All,

My gf and I are traveling to Thailand in two weeks and we have a provisional plan drawn up after a bit of research. For anybody who has some experience of traveling in the country, could you please take a look at what we have set out and perhaps give a few pointers on whether or not it's viable, or if there is anything you would change?

It's our first trip there and we were hoping to get a lot in, but at the same time, it's a holiday and we don't want to be rushing through the country for the three weeks.

Days 1-4: Bangkok (Hotel booked already for 3 nights).
Day 4: Overnight train to Chiang Mai.
    Days 5, 6 ,7 , 8 & 9: Chiang Mai.
Day 9: Fly to Phuket and travel straight to Phi Phi.
    Day 10&11: Phi Phi.
    Day 12: Travel to Krabi.
    Day 12, 13 & 14: Krabi.
Day 14: Travel to Ko Phangan (late) (Aug 31st).
Day 15&16: Ko Phangan for Full Moon and hangover recovery.
Day 16: Travel to Ko Samui (Late).
    Days 17, 18 & 19: Ko Samui.
Day 19: Return to Phuket for flight back to Bangkok.
Day 20 - Final day in Bangkok; Flight home late.

Not sure how viable all the travel is, particularly between the different islands and Krabi...

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Try fit in Ayutthaya for 2 nights or so. You wont regret it, theres plenty to do.

Chiang mai is good but i wouldnt spend more tahen 4-5 days there. Have a look at Patara elephant park aswel, its just outside of chiang mai. Its pricey enough but definately and definately best thing ive ever done in thailand.

Id stay in Phi Phi for an extra day and spend one less day in Krabi, I got back last month Krabi was pretty dead to be honest there was a good enough nightlife (nothing compared to the other places) but during the day there was nothing to do (and if the weather is the same as it was when I was there its not going to be great). Phi Phi don on the other hand is absolute paradise it was my favourite place in Thailand by miles the bay is just unreal. We stayed in a place called Phi Phi Princess it was right on the beach was a great place and seemed good compared to other stories(dont stay in a place called "the rock" ha. But thats what I would do I regret not staying on Phi Phi for longer!

The few days before the full moon on ko phangan are imo better than the day. maybe a day less in Chang mai and or krabi and use them in ko phangan instead. though its a solid enough plan.

    Hi,

I spent three weeks in Thailand last year with my girlfriend. Our trip itinery was slightly different to yours.

We did Bangkok at the end. When we arrived in Thailand we got an internal flight to Chang Mai. We just visited Phi Phi on a day trip from Krabi. We also skipped Ko Samui and spent 5 days on Ko Phangan.

You have a lot of moving around planned, perhaps you could cut out one of the islands. I didnt like Phuket at all and much preferred Krabi.

Why are you flying from Ko Samui to Phuket then Bangkok? There are internal flights direct from Samui to BKK.

I recommend flying from BKK to Chang Mai. Flights are cheap and only take an hour or so. I think the train takes 11 hours. When we looked at the nicer carraiges on the train we were only saving 30e each compared to flights. When your on a tight schedule flights make more sense.
