landrover hdc failure

    this morning while driving 08 freelander i got a warning on the dash hdc engine failure and my car came to a stop and wont start again does anyone know what this is?

    HDC is Hill Decent Control, If you have a manual LR then its usually an ABS braking system fault(the HDC works through the ABS).

    If you have an Auto box then the fault can relate to that too.

    A weak battery or faulty charging system can throw the light two, after the engine cuts out and would explain the not starting.

    thanks nissan doctor,I have a manual version,i wont start at all,it stopped while driving?is this due to a dead battery?

    More likely a charging system fault then the battery itself. Guessing due to the non starting.

    what needs to be done to it to get it fixed?and any idea how much it will cost?

    How much is an impossible question as there are such a broad range of things that could have caused the engine to cut out(I suspect the engine died and then the HDC fault came up).

    Your only option is to have it brought to a reputable garage and diagnosed properly and go from there.
