    Hi all,

I have recently bought a new digital TV. I am getting Saorview but it does not have ITV, CH4 or CH5. I am able to get these on analogue but how do I get those when the plug is pulled in Oct? I leave near the border.

    Walrus

Do you have an Aerial on your house?

    Do you have bbc1/2?

Whats the model number of the tv?

Would you be willing to spend a couple of quid on a dish?

It's a Sony Bravia. I am able to get BBC1 and 2 on analogue and digital. The arial was replaced a couple of weeks ago. I have a sky dish but have cancelled Sky.

UK Freeview (digital) transmissions from NI main transmitters will get a substantial boost at switchover & the smaller relay sites will transmit Freeview for the 1st time, though not the full service from these smaller transmitters.

Your chances of getting the full Freeview service will depend on where you are located.

So north Monaghan will get these channels when the signal is boosted at switch over? There's no action on my part?

North Monaghan already has them in decent reception areas, especially those who receive from the Divis (Belfast) transmitter. It will be to your advantage after switchover if you get your signal from Divis.

Did you already say you had analogue channel 5? Can you list the UHF channel nos. of your NI analogue channels?

If you have analogue channel 5, you're almost certainly getting the other 4 from Divis (channel 5 actually comes from the nearby Black Mountain transmitter).

Correction: I am not getting Channel 5... I thought it was available on analouge but it's not.

    Does this change anything?

It probably means your other 4 analogue channels are coming from the Brougher Mountain transmitter.

The UHF channels in use are 22, 28, 25 & 32 for BBC1, 2, UTV & Ch.4 respectively. Your tv should display these nos. probably via the "info" button or in the tuning menu.

    Display them in digital?

No, those are the analogue channels used at Brougher Mtn.

Also, if you know which end of an aerial is which, you should be able to tell if one of yours (expect you would have a 2nd for Irish channels) is pointing to either Tyrone or Belfast.

It's possible some older aerial combiners would remove the channel 5 signal from the NI feed.

Yes, group A was originally channels 21-34, so an older A/E diplexer for combining Divis or Brougher with Cairn Hill or Clermont Carn would be no use for analogue C5 on channel 37.

There may be nothing wrong with your 'new' aerial , Brougher digital is very low power for the next 10 weeks anyway. Ring the aerial man and ask hime where your new aerial is pointed. !!!
