Noticed a couple being built around a month ago on the n25 and now that I look there's loads around cork on dual carriageways... Basically it's a little lay-by/ hard standing off the hard shoulder big enough for a car, the surface had been painted green to blend in to the verge and an authorised vehicles only sign ..... And a concrete path running from hard standing to a large pole and or an electrical/ control box...
There are 2 east bound near Carrigtohil, 1 on the airport hill,1 west bound near balincolig ,1 near Douglas.1 between poulavoune round , think I saw a couple on the Dublin rd, as well...
They almost look like masts for a fixed speed camera but haven't heard about any....
    Any ideas ??

Sounds like you were half right. I reckon they are for the speed camera vans, or the garda.

I don't think they're garda pull ins, some are very close to existing Garda pull ins, plus the Garda ones have a sign saying " Garda only"

i noticed these on the roads around west cork as well,
was wondering if they were charging points for electric cars?

They never mark them as "authorized vehicles only" and they are usually in destination locations like supermarkets, parking, central streets etc

Preparing for advanced warning matrix signs which are proposed. Hense why they are all on approaches to carriageway exits.

    Nah...

Speed camera operators are now pretending to be families on picnics and the like to catch motorists off guard as they belt by.

    Now where's me tinfoil hat.
