04-08-2012 11:11pm#1Need to log onto old Laptop but have forgotten Password!
Any ideas?! Have heards things about pressing F5 and F12 but I don't know what to go into. Have also heard of going in via Last known good configuration but don't know where to find this..... Any suggestions anyone?

That won't help you recover a lost password if your anyway technically inclined download and burn hirens boot cd it contains lots of password reset programs, you'll need to configure your computer to boot from the cd in the bios settings usually you get there by pressing f2 or del key at startup0 -
Well I'd manage that much I think. But would be a little hesitant if anything crops up afterwards that I wouldn't have a clue how to do when it's a Laptop that's at stake. Meh. Can't understand how this happened?! I wasn't anywhere near the computer nor was anyone else! How did the password get changed by itself?! :eek:
By booting from a CD though, will that mean that the Laptop will re-format itself back to Factory State and Settings etc.? Or will it make any changes like that?0 -

No it won't reformat the hard disc, this is a multi purpose boot disc there is password reset program's and they are pretty fool proof, all it will do is blank out the password0 -

Okay cheers will give that a try. But um amn't I burning a CD?! I thought Laptops don't have burners?! Or actually maybe they do I could be thinking of something else. Am too tired now anyways going to bed, will give it a try tomorrow thanks. 0

How do I actually boot the CD?! How do I get it to the black screen with loads of white writing win32 or whatever it's called? Where do I go to from Windows in Normal Mode / in Safe Mode / Networking - which of the 3?
Well can eliminate Normal Mode, - it just started in that but just brought me to password-entering screen. Maybe it's one of the other 2?
Ohhh actually maybe it's some Advanced Settings from that Blue-bar at the top BIOS or whatever it's called? Have been tapping on F8 to get to Start-up to select a Windows Mode, but maybe I should be hitting F12 for the Blue BIOS Menus to get to the Win32 with loads of white writing?! I don't really know here now what to do..... I might try F12 and see. 0 -

You need to bring up the boot screen it can be a few buttons try ESC DEL F2 or F12.0 -
Scrap my above post! Hit F12 a few times and now have a Boot Menu now;
4) IDE CD: Tsstcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H-(
5) IDE HDD: FUJITSU MHW2120BH-(S1)
(Enter Setup)
IDE CD sounds like it would boot from a CD but haven't a clue but sure might as well try it. Enter Setup brings me to the PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility blue-bar thingy with loads of Menus and Settings and Stuff. It has a boot Tab but I ain't got a bull's clue about any of it!
Might try IDE CD and see what that is. Have no idea what the 5) Fujitsu is?! I don't have anything Fujitsu?! Laptop I'm on is Toshiba and Laptop that needs Password is Advent so that's rather puzzling. 0 -

Windows Error Recovery with the Windows Modes and it's just gone into starting Windows normally and now at the Password entering screen.
I might try something other than InfraRecorder. I think there was a couple of different ones in Rucking Fetard's steps there. I just went with InfraRecorder but I might try burning with something else maybe. Have to go now for a short while. Thanks so much for all your help! 0 -

Doesn't matter only difference is CD-RW you can wipe the disc and write to it again as many times as you like with CD-R you cant. 0 -

Stick with the CD its pain in the arse trying to boot from a USB especially from a old laptop.0 -
When you do get the CD out
try this.
Install Imgburn from here http://www.imgburn.com/
On Imgburn you want to click on "Write image file to disc"
Select you source (the ISO file you downloaded) then write. Simples 0 -

Ah righties. In so far as possible would like to stay away from any more ass-pains where possible lol! Have enough of those! Okay so it looks like just keep meddling about with this CD Drive then and hope CD will remove itself! Off to bed now anyways. Thanks again. Tomorrow (well today technically,) is another day!

Turn of the laptop and try push the paper clip in dead straight and it should pop open. Let me know how you get on.0 -

There ain't no files to select when I go to write the image...... Folders alright called Uniblue, Languages, and Sounds but they are empty folders. Lappie I'm on is 64bit don't know if that would have anything to do with why these Burners are a bit contrary? Tried OPHCrack yesterday too btw but it wouldn't even download for some reason. 0

When you downloaded Hirens BootCD you need to extract the ZIP file say to your desktop and you will see the ISO. Direct Imgburn to the desktop and select the ISO file.0 -

That's Hirens yeah, but we tried Hiren's last night if you remember. I did locate the Hiren's ISO File and put it onto the CD put I couldn't get other Laptop to boot right with it. There's no files at all in ImgBurn just empty Folders called Languages and Sounds. 0

Yep you are right. Select Hiren's.BootCD.15.1.iso as the Source in ImgBurn click write and hey presto you SHOULD have a bootable Hirens CD. 0 -
