finishing bulls young

    read an article by justin mc carthy in the journal this week where he and a bunch of irish farmers travelled to scotland to witness various beef production systems

    one of the farms was involved in finishing bulls at 12 months , i think they were belgian blue crosses , ive often heard of the likes of angus bulls being finished at around sixteen months but a year sounds incredibly young

    I think they are called rose veal if they are under 12 months. Not sure what market there is for them though.

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    no , this farmer wasnt producing for the veal market , didnt say they had to be under twelve months

    He also has a large tillage operation so the straw and meal are no obstacle..british young farmer of the year and farmer of the year:rolleyes:

    Passing one of Dawn Meats farms during the week 100+ B&W bulls in one of the paddocks 300kg approx. Looked like last Autumns calves. Must be more future in the bull trade than we are being told lately.
