RIP Con Houlihan,Always a great interesting read on the back page of the Evening press with a witty yet intelligent piece on the sport of that week.

I remember my dad almost forcing me to read his column all those years ago. A genius who sadly faded away with the new technology/internet era.

From the 1981 Final. Offaly Vs Galway.

"And by noon yesterday there were so many Offaly people in Dublin that you hoped no cow in the Faithful County would slip into a drain or no ass wander into a bog hole."

    Enough said! :)

He wrote until his final week. You can read a selection of his columns here: http://www.herald.ie/opinion/columnists/con-houlihan

The man had a beautiful way with words and depicting rural and sporting life. He'll be sadly missed. Hopefully a chunky anthology of his work will hit the shelves at some stage.
