Sorry mods,I have read the rules and think I have the right forum but if not please correct

    Hi All,

I am looking for freebox that allows access to the red button the only one I have seen is a Sky box however I do not want to pay a subscription fee and I am not sure if you can just purchase a Sky box without the subscription fee

Also if possible a box that can pick up Saorview and Freeview. I am based in Ireland.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks

Freeview is actually the UK terrestrial digital service, you're probably thinking of Freesat.

A Freesat box has the red button facility & Sky boxes are available 2nd hand & will work with the free channels without a sub. Neither of these options will get you the Irish channels though & an out of sub. Sky box will lose its recording ability.

Any free to air satellite receiver will receive the actual streams that carry the red button programmes & they can be tuned in as extra channels, but not accessed via the red button.

Satellite/terrestrial combo boxes are available, 2 of which are Saorview approved but they don't have proper red button ability for satellite as they're not Freesat receivers.

    Thanks for the explanation.

I have seen that yon can tune in the streams for the red buttons and I have actually tried this but I when I do I tend to knock other channles off.

What is the best way to get all available channels on the box's I currently have.

What kind of boxes do you have?

You should be able to tune in extra channels without knocking anything off.

I have a opticum 4100c and a silver crest SL 45 HDMI, even if I have to do some sort of reset to get all the available channels as I believe I am missing some others I did have in the past.

If you do a complete rescan, you'll end up with a lot of stuff to be deleted; a lot of rubbish & unnecessary BBC & ITV regions.

Might be easier to look through a list & just tune in what you want. These lists for example: http://en.kingofsat.net/pos-28.2E.php or http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A-and-Astra-1N-2A-2B.html

You're probably making the same mistake as the guy in this thread.

See post #10 & 11 for info regarding the Silvercrest box, don't know about the Opticum.
