Hi guys, got a couple of pigeons who are nesting in a barn.

Is there anywhere in wexford where I can get .22 rat shot that would either take care of them (or their nest) and not break up the barn?

    Billy Kelly doesn't have any.

I wouldn't bother with them , they are ok for a rat at a couple of feet but thats about it, pathetic otherwise , if you know someone with an air rifle thats the job.

if you cannot get them get some alpha chlorate mix it with some grain wheat and that will sort them

I heard that CCI's CB.22 sub sonic has a very low power and would be perefect for use in sheds with going through the roofing if the shot is missed or a through and through.

It is now illegal to use that. Was great for magpies and greys. Another tool gone in the war against vermin.

or failing any of the above, just get an extension ladder, climb up, remove nest and kill chicks... voila!

Any reports of that shot say its not really up to the job. See if you can get someone on here with an air rifle to help ya out and knock down the nest with a pole

from 50 yards it would go through corrugated sheeting..

You need to get .22lr Flobert or BB cap rimfire ammo. Its a single round ball impressed into a rimfire cap.Thats the best stuff, and at 50 feet not to mind yards it will just about dimple corrugate. Not very accruate mind, but good enough for goverment work in a barn.:)

i think thats only game birds , crows and pidgeons you can shoot away asfaik, also bird droppings near animal feed or grain etc is a health hazard.

    It comes up a lot.

all crows (excluding raven) Magpie and pigeon can be shot under derogation out of season for reasons like the op wants to shoot them.

Also its not illegal to fire a rifle up into the air. Its just plain stupidity without a safe back stop and could lead to the loss of your licence for reckless use of a firearm.

The derogations are the latest piece of legislation though and the Wildlife act provides the Minister the means to enact them.

It is in the wildlife act somewhere that you cant shoot birds with a rifle.... But you can under derogation to protect crops or what ever the reason be...

You cant just shoot a pigeon in the middle of a field with a rifle for the craic though.
