This is an interesting one, a friend wants to put a soarview 22 led tv in kitchen but on existing tv he has sky piped in and was surprised when told the new tv will not pick up the sky feed as tv does not have an analogue tuner. Is there a workround that I am not aware of???

and any 22" TV with both tuners?

    gbc

He's being fed a load of BS, Sky doesn't use any tuner - digital or analog. The Sky box connects to the TV using HDMI or SCART and bypasses the tuner.

Tell him to look at his existing setup - is the Sky signal going into the TV via the co-ax socket? Didn't think so.

If that information came from a TV shop or satellite dealer, tell him to take his business elsewhere.

SKY boxes have an alternative analogue RF output also. Not used very often, but there none the less.

Thanks, have never seen any of my friends use that option.

OP, does the Sky box have HDMI or SCART? If so then that is the way to go.

    Is the TV very new?
I thought most TVs still have analogue tuners .... although I expect that to change over time.

    EDIT
I may be mis-reading this example
    http://www.did.ie/samsung-22-led-tv-ue22es5000wxx
    DTV Tuner DVB-T/C
    Analog Tuner Yes
    EPG Yes
    Channel List USB-Clone Yes
    CI+ CI+
    Auto Channel Search Yes
    Teletext (TTX) (1,000 pages) Yes

+1 This recent thread suggests that most new TVs will ship with both analog and digital tuners.

However, if the Sky box is outputting a VHF signal, that may be a problem with new TVs though there's still a lot of people in Dublin using the UPC analog signal which is VHF so I wouldn't say there should be a problem sourcing a new TV with a VHF tuner though I wouldn't look outside Ireland for such a beast.

Sky Boxes output channels 21 to 68 - all UHF channels - Not VHF. You didnt know sky boxes had an rf output, now making a claim that they output a VHF signal. OP is looking for advice, not negativity & obsticles.

What make and model was the TV?

Also it's an LCD TV, illuminated with LEDs. There ARE LED TVs, at about €20,000. OLED TVs are cheaper only about x10 price of regular LCD TV :)

Analogue tuning is a separate menu. There are a few UK Digital TVs without Analogue tuners, but I don't think any of them are Saorview approved.

My Samsung TV has a "Channel Source" option for tuning.

    Choices are:
    "Digital & Analogue"
    "Digital"
    "Analogue"

I expect the TV is set to only scan for "Digital" channels.

Plenty of people use RF2 to distribute to tvs in other rooms.

How many people have i seen who couldnt tune in analogue rf sky during tv setup only to discover they hadnt got the skybox switched on during the scan.

Surely this is important? The OP implies the Sky signal is being delivered via RF over a cable - a community system, UPC etc. - so the question of access to Scart connectors or the Sky box itself does not arise.

Is it not just someone using RF2 for distribution & the guy in the shop has told him the new tv he's interested in won't work with the analogue signal?

What's the big deal? How did the thread come to be dominated by the poster who didn't even know Sky boxes have an RF output?

thanks all, the model is samsung 22'' UED 5003 and I have never seen so many different models!!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭Peter Rhea

There's no point linking to the Samsung US site, the models are different. ATSC is the American DTT standard.

    The UE22D5003 is Saorview approved.

    Ooops forgot to check.

Still maybe the menus are similar.

Don't know about 'official' info, but this IOM seller claims it has an analogue tuner.

Reviews on Amazon would also suggest this is the case.
