Should I buy a Mac

    Hi,

Im considering buying a Macbook Pro. I have some questions though.

Considering its going to cost twice as much as a Windows laptop I want it to last two years. Now, I find I only get a year out of a laptop before it becomes too slow, looks old and outdated.

So would a macbook last two years or close enough before it becomes outdated or looks outdated?

Other than the screen quality is there any difference between the renita display and non renita display? Is it worth the extra? Im planning on getting the 13" which would mean waiting a little while before getting it if I go for the retina display. And an extra few hundred euro.

So basically will it last long and is the renita worth it?

Any laptop with a spec similar to the MacBook Pro will easily last two years without becoming too slow or getting out-dated (unless of course your needs and usage changes substantially). As for looks, no one can answer that but you as looks are subjective.

    Thanks,

As for looks, what I was concerned about was something similar to the iphone. I thought apple changed the look often and would end up after a year with a laptop that looks as different to the current model as the 3gs looks to the iphone 4.

But it seems that apple doesnt change the design too much.

iPhone 4 and 4S are identical. iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS are more or less identical (never really looked at them or compared them in person but they look very alike). I know people who still think the design of the 3GS is better than the 4/4S whereas I always hated the look of the 3GS and think the 4/4S is really nice. The MacBooks have looked the way they do for ages now apart from the retina one which is a bit thinner so you shouldn't have too much to worry about there. So they don't change design all that often. Just buy what you think looks good now, you can't tell what's around the corner, it could look the same, better or worse. For example, I think the iMac G4 was and still is awesome (could do with a bit of prettying up a bit but that's it) whereas I thought the G5 looked fugly when it came out. It reminds me of a till at tesco. This despite it being newer than the G4. Both are obviously very old now but I still think the G4 is awesome. I wanna get one and rip out the guts and modernise the crap out of it. :) Some day.
