Thurles vs Limerick Junction

I'm getting a train on Sunday from one or the other to Dublin. When weighing up my options I noticed that Thurles has far more trains (17) to Dublin than Limerick Junction has (11), despite them being adjacent stops.

Surely Limerick Junction, being a railway junction, should have more trains than Thurles?

    Am I missing something here?

Thurles has some direct trains from Limerick that bypass Limerick junction afaik and there may also be a train that starts in Thurles

The 17:05 Dublin - Tralee has a stop in Thurles, but not in Limerick Junction, also.

But this is the thing... surely it should stop in LJ rather than Thurles?

The normal Tralee-Mallow-Heuston service stops in LJ so it is probably not seen as necessary for the direct Tralee trains to also serve LJ?

The 17.00 Dublin-Cork runs non stop to Limerick J.
The 17.05 Dublin-Tralee stops in Ballybrophy, Templemore, Thurles and not Limerick J as the Cork trains caters for Limerick J and the Tralee caters for passengers at other stations. Also Tralee stops more places so it wont be on top of the 17.00. Also no point in two services from Dublin stopping in Limerick J 5 mins apart and remenber Limerick J has one platform and once the 17.00 from Dublin departs the 17.30 from Cork is stopped waiting to use the platform.

The difference is the six direct Limerick trains that operate on Sundays. They don't serve Limerick Junction.
