I would avoid Suntour forks like the plague! Minimum decent fork spec is Rockshox Recon. Canyon offer far and away the best value/spec at the €1000 price point if you are prepared to buy online. If not Boardman or Cube are probably your best bet - the big name brands, such as Specialized, Giant or Lapierre, will have slightly worse spec for the same money!

if you buy online do you have to assemble bike yourself when it is delivered, or does it come in one piece? Whats a good site to buy?

Have you had a look at Fitz Cycles August sale.

They only have one left but theres a Stevens Haze ES Carbon down to 930 Euro. Might be the bike for you?? Bit confusing as they mention Frameset in the add then say theres 1 20" bike left and in the fine print list it as an 18" so be worth ringing to clarify.

The Voodoo is very heavy and poorly specced so no! I think a hardtail would be your best bet with your budget. Personally the only brand that I would buy from Halfords wood be a Boardman.

Which would be the better mountain bike? Genesis, Trek or Giant. What MTB would yous Boardies go for?

I was looking at the trek 6500 disc mountain bike. Its outside my budget but I would nearly go for it. Can pick up local. Anyone know anything about it?

I would avoid anything from Halfords (some of the Boardman stuff isn't too bad though) most of the so-called 'mountain bikes' they sell wouldn't last very long off road.
The Stevens bike looks good but it's a large size, so unless you are 6ft or more, it is a non-runner.

What price is the Trek 6500 you're looking at? The spec looks okay depending on the price. http://www.trekbikes.com/int/en/bikes/mountain/sport/6_series/6500/#

Trek 6500 is about 1500 euros. I am 6 foot 3 so Stevens is still in.

The Stevens is much better value than the Trek - better spec too ..... go for it before it's gone!
