TrueCrypt - advice

    Hi guys,

    Any advice would be great.

Need your help with this one.

I have a 16GB Verbatim Tough n Tiny Memory Stick
Mac at home. PC at the office.
Office have made us all encrypt our memory sticks.
They suggested TrueCrypt to do this as it works across both platforms.
    - no problems so far.

If I need to access my memory stick on a computer that is not my home or office computer and that computer doesn't have TrueCrypt - what do I do?

Now I want to use the 16GB in a few ways
    i) BackUp of my documents - shouldn't take up too much space (not photo's or anything - just academic stuff
ii) Transfer docs to and from work
iii) Transfer docs to and from another computer.

Is there a way to partition the memory stick to show up the encrypted and non-unencrypted partitions? Or is it TrueCrypt or nothing and another thumb drive for other computers.

    Many thanks

Yes it's no problem. You can have Truecrypt like a file or in a seperate partition.

Truecrypt can be used on a USB drive. So it's portable:

Thanks for that guys. I'll try that out. The issue was that the IT guy said I couldn't partition my thumb drive and encrypt a partition that would work on both PC and Mac.

I've formatted my thumb drive to FAT32 and will not encrypt one drive and see what happens - will let you know.

By default, you can't partition USB pen drives. You'll need to install a special USB driver, i.e. Hitachi Microdrive.

As zimmerframe said you can create a large encrypted partition on the usb drive and use what's let of the space that's unencrypted to store truecrypt.

Oh, I just used DiskUtility on my mac to partition. Is that not a true partition?

Do all partitions show on the PC as well, or only the first?

Ah, so I have truecrypt with my everywhere no matter what system I'm on - even if its a work PC that won't let me open the drive to access true crypt? ie when I select the usb drive at work - it wont let me access it. I have to open truecrypt programme and mount it.
