    Howdy folks?

I know that you cant give medical advise on here but in wondering what other cyclists would do in a particular situation.

I got two fractured transverse process on the lumbar vertebrae, that's the sticky out bit on the side of the vertebrae, its not a particularly important part and the consultant in the hospital didn't seam worried about it.

    So...

Would you cycle with it? have you cycled with an injury?

I think you would be mad to cycle with a back injury. From my own experience I went back on the racer to early after a back injury and I only made things worse. Talk to a physio and work out an exercise program to strengthen your back.

the consultant in the hospital didn't seam worried about it.

Did the consultant say you can cycle?
His is the only opinion I'd be listening to. I've had seriously fractured vertebrae in three locations and was advised cycling wasn't going to harm it further and it didn't. I wouldn't listen to any opinion other than a specialist.

I fractured a thoracic vertebrae and had it pinned. The consultant was a cyclist himself and said in theory I could cycle the next day. It was a bit longer than that but cycling was grand and played a large part in my rehabilitation
....but spinal injuries are complex and as OP stresses - this is not the forum to get medical advice about something as important as your back.
Trust me, as an old git you want to delay the onset of "ooh me back" syndrome as long as possible.

I have prolapsed disc for 20 years, told I needed an op but skipped due to the experiences of others with lower back surgery.

Cycling has been the best thing ever. If I cycle I rarely have pain, if I put on weight and don't train I have more incidents of back pain.

If the back was sore thou I'd wait till things settled.

I fractured a vertebra mid lower back (12 or 13) a couple of years ago, and have since started racing. each to their own though
