Acer turns on but nothing on screen!

    A few days ago I was using my Acer Laptop. It's a few years old but it's been treated like a baby... I never abused it, it's spotless clean and I only use it the odd time and it was working perfectly.

    So there I was using it, I left my room for 15mins to get some food, came back and there was nothing on the screen.. I tried everything in terms of CTRL+ALT+DELETE, to esc, to even turning it off manually..

    Since then alls it does is power on but nothing else, the fan works, I can hear other things working if I listen closely enough but no screen..

    Any idea what the problem might be? Would it be expensive to fix?

    I have a similar problem with an Acer one netbook, when start button is pressed, start button led light comes on and there is the sound of the fan whirring, nothing on the screen. Not even a hint of it booting up.
    Any help appreciated but it looks like theres is a serious hardware malfunction.

    Get a vga to vga cable and plug the laptop in to a tv/monitor you will be able to see if it is just the screen that is shot
