Lads, receiver box (Strong 6130) packed up this morning, was installed about 10 years ago. Is it as simple as buying another receiver (which one?), plugging in cables and away you go, or will I need to get a man in??

    Thanks ;)

It's basically that simple, yes. Only thing to consider is reception of the Irish channels (if you want them of course).

Do you currently have a tv or receiver capable of decoding the Saorview signal?

    Thanks for replying.

No, TV is as old as receiver so it was just UK free channels that were being received. Would be handy to have Irish ones as well. What do you recommend?

As you had a FTA box already, then a direct replacement would be something like the Ariva 150 combo box will give you all FTA UK channels, including HD, as well as all of the Irish channels on Saorview.

Going higher in price, there are a number of Saorview approved combo boxes (Walker WP645TS-HD and Triax TSC114) which in addition to above, also have digital teletext on Saorview.

Alt. you could also go down the route of Freesat box (which doesn't require tuning and has interactive services) along with a separate Saorview box.

A question...are you saying you can use a freesat(eg, humax) along with a combo box (eg ariva 250) ?

if so how would you configure it?

Typo - meant separate Saorview box. Now corrected.

You'll also need an aerial of some kind for the terrestrial channels if you go for a combo. An indoor or attic aerial will work in some cases, but outdoor will deliver a more reliable signal & will be essential at a lot of locations.
