Hi folks, I know theres a wanted section on adverts but I wasnt sure if anybody checks it. I must admit I dont anyway. Hopefully this is allowed but mods feel free to delete if this breaks any rules.

Just wondering if anyone has a Canon 24-70 2.8 L that they want to part with? Im ideally looking to pick one up in the next few days.

Ive had a good look on adverts and cant see anybody selling one at the moment. They all seem to sell in or around the 800 - 900 mark so happy to pay the same, depending on condition etc.

Even if you know somebody with one who might be thinking of selling it, perhaps let them know. Id be happy to go through adverts first i.e if somebody has it, they list it on adverts and Ill offer asking price. Just so its all above board and proper.

    Cheers folks,

    Dave

Cheers Paul, I just dropped him an email there, but from the looks of it its been sold. sure we'll see anyway.

If anybody else knows of one, it'd be much appreciated.

They come up often enough on adverts.ie so Im sure Ill get sorted within a few weeks anyway.

Just saw your post (and joined Boards!). I have a mint 24-70 Canon. I can advertise on adverts.ie, if you're still interested.

    Splinters,

Amazed at the interest in my 24-70. Just mentioned to a few people that I was thinking of selling and already got an offer I couldn't refuse. Now that I've sold it, some advice that may be of use to you.

Buy the Canon 24-105 f4 instead. Why?

I owned both and the 24-70 has not been on my camera (1Ds MkIII) since I bought the 24-105. At 2.8 the 24-70 is soft, but sharpens considerably as you stop down. The 24-105 is acceptably sharp from f4.

The 24-70 is too short (for full frame) at 70mm for portraits. The 24-105 includes the traditional 85mm and 100mm portrait focal lengths.

The 24-105 is a lot lighter, even photographers with wrists of steel will appreciate this weight reduction if hand-holding for extended periods.

Autofocus with both lenses is very fast.

It is significantly cheaper...and you'll notice I haven't even mentioned IS!

Of course, somebody else will advise you of the exact opposite, but the only upside is you won't be disappointed with either lens.
