Got a message on my window yesterday that I was parked where there was no parking.

Apparently two of the aisles or bays in the O Reilly Hall car park are reserved for private gym members, in addition to the huge car park beside the gym. Its absolute madness, those car parks are miles from the gym!

No harm in the walk over for a warm up before you get stuck in!

Presumably for when the internal gates are closed? Big car park reserved at back of pool also, pulling out all the stops to attract full paying members I guess.

Which is funny since the gym. "carpark" just has builders cars in it.

No, that's retarded. Parking is a joke as it is. Students contribute significantly more financially to the college annually than "private gym members" and there's absolutely no reason to give them any private parking at all, given the current situation..

Well, by choosing to going to that college they pay about 2k out of their own pocket and also pay 5k in fees, which is subsidised by the taxes they and their parents have paid, and it makes Economic sense to do this, as the better educated an individual, the more tax they will pay over their life time and the more skilled a work force, the more business will be attracted to the country, with us having the biggest portion of FDI ratio in our GDP than any other country in the E.U. Do you think "free" fees is a charity hand out or is it an Economic policy decision to benefit the country and the universities? So yes, students do make a significant contribution to the college. Which funding do you think the college would prefer to lose, students fees and the knock on effects, or gym members fees? I think I know which is far more important. ;)

I get the feeling that for the gym/pool to be viable, they need X amount of members. For ucd to attract business to this gym they are offering dedicated parking, something previously unheard of in ucd.

With the college running a ridiculous deficit, it seems to me that they are not willing to allow a new facility drag the place more into the red.

Oh and as for parking - if people got over themselves and cycled or used public transport, then maybe the problem wouldn't be as bad.

Yes, paying 10% of the value of a course is a significant contribution!

If there were no students there would be no college. Their contribution to the college is extremely important in the grand scheme of things.
