Emergency tax.

    I sent away my 12a form last week.
    Im just wondering what happens now.
    do I get a cert and what to I do to claim back my emergency tax.

    Any help much appreciated

    Assuming its your first job. Once form is processed, a tax credit cert is sent to your employer, allowing them to tax you correctly. Any overpaid tax is then refunded in your wages by your employer.

    Thank you for your help.
    I had a bit of summer work 2 years ago and I think i got a p45 but not sure.
    would this make any difference?

    Your previous years won't affect this one.

    For them, you need to contact Revenue yourself, and ask for a balancing statement for those years.

    after getting my tax certificate there 2day. So will I get my emergency tax back in my wages or whats the procedure?

    You will get this year's emergency tax back in the first payroll after HR have implemented the effect of the certificate in their system.

    In organised companies, that will be your next pay-day (unless it's this week). In less-well-organsied ones, it would be a few weeks away.
