SD to CF card adaptors — effect on write speeds?

    Howdy all,

I need to stock up on some extra memory for my Olympus E-510, which takes CF and/or xD cards. I've been managing fine with two old Sandisk Ultra II cards (4GB), but SDHC cards are getting faster and cheaper all the time and rather than buy more CF cards I was half-thinking of getting one of these.

Any downside to them? Do they 'rob' much of the transfer speed/carry a higher risk of card errors? The camera doesn't shoot video, and I don't often find myself shooting long bursts in RAW (in any case, I suppose I could keep the 4GB CF cards I have for those situations and use micro-SDHC cards for more general use...).

TIA for any comments. Googling produced mixed verdicts — some say yes, it slows things down, others report no difference.

Should have next to no effect. There are no electronics in adapters, they are just contacts and wires to change one configuration to another.

Cheers, I think I'll give it a try. I've no idea exactly what the write speeds are for the E-510 but it's over 5 years old and I can't imagine it'll be unduly affected.

Also just did a quick spot check and I seem to have about 32GB worth of 4GB/8GB micro-SDHC cards lying around the place... (damn those irresistible Boards.ie Bargain Alerts! :o) so I might as well put 'em to use.
