BMW 316ti Compact - Brake Problem

Have a BMW 316ti Compact with a Brake Problem. Apply brakes at any speed and it slows the car down no problem but it is then that the problem becomes apparent. The brake pedal becomes very heavy and the car won't stop fully unless some considerable pressure is applied to the pedal.

My mechanic tells me it's the vacuum pump but he's now put in two of these to replace the old one and still no joy. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks.

Are they new pumps he has fitted? A hard pedal means that the servo is not getting a vacuum feed or is faulty itself. A split pipe or poorly sealing unions between the pipe and vacuum pump or the pipe and servo would be the obvious things to check.

    Thanks for the reply.

No, they were used pumps that I sourced.

He's pretty sure that the latest pump he put in is fine. A split pipe was also suggested to him but he said it's fine too.

Will suggest the unions and servo to him.

Any idea how much a replacement servo would be?

    Thanks again.
