has anyone seen the new Vodafone Broadband Max plan from vodafone at €29.99 including line rental?

i called the sales agents to order this for a relative but was told you need a line with over 8mb speed to get this, seems a strange requirement.

The 15gb download limit is pitiful though, bit odd offering up to 24mb speed and such a low cap, couldn't see an option for a higher download limit on the site.

Who was it that posted recently that said a fast connection and low allowance was like having a Ferrari and driving 10 meters down the road or something!

But yeah Up too 24Mb speeds with a 15Gb cap is actually comical

It could very well suit the needs of some people but that's a very small allowance

Probably done on purpose to get the customer to get the 150GB add on for €5.99

This would be an almost reasonable deal if not for the 18 month contract. Clearly they are hoping people will outgrow the cap in that time.

True...although if someone is on their 'up to 8mb' deal, then - in theory - it's probably still worthwhile moving over to it.

However, on their 'up to 8mb' deal, i'm really just getting speeds of less than 3Mbps.

Therefore, can anyone who is on this new package - 'Vodafone Broadband Max - confirm what the actual speeds they are getting are?

Yes, I only noticed this afterwards. It's nasty. When you sign up for 18 months, isn't that enough? It does seem unfair to apply this surcharge.

Ok, this is typical of the service I've been getting on their entry level adsl product. LINK.

As of tomorrow, I will be switched over to 'broadband max'. I will post back with the result.

In relation to that surcharge, it only will be applied to existing customers where they are downgrading from a superior product (at least that's my understanding of what they are saying in relation to that). You can read that for yourself here.

it doesnt mention anything about it on their site,
    note term no.10

Sure - was well aware of that. What they have confirmed (in the other thread I linked to) I'm taking as reality. It's there in writing - and they are vodafone customer service reps - so that's enough of an undertaking for me (i.e. I am confident based on that - that nobody can make me pay that fee now).

Finally got switched over to Broadband Max within the last hour. Getting this.

Would be interested to compare speedtest results with others who have switched to this product.

They tell me that my line is rated at 15Mbps max. I'm in a (relatively) new estate...well, 6 years old in a small town - a short distance from the exchange. Eircom upgraded the exchange to 24Mpbs 2 months ago. Is it reasonable that my line can only support 15Mbps? Can I verify this for myself in some way?

As previously, would be curious to hear from others - and see what speeds they are achieving on this package.....

The package isn't magic...it just goes on what eircom test the line at.
You can see that from the line stats in your router

I am not expecting 'magic'. However, on the old product which I used up until last week, I got 2-3Mbps (best case scenario) on an 'up to 8Mpbs' product - via an exchange that has been upgraded to facilitate 'up to 24Mbps'.

I just think that it's not unreasonable that what's offered should not be a tad closer to those threshold figures. Of course, if this is unrelated to vodafone's network (I don't believe that to be the case in relation to the old 'up to 8Mbps' product I was using up until this week), then I'd like that to be pursued with eircom wholesale.

Well if you tell us what your line stats are to start with we can tell you what your line can handle then you can take the issue further.

No worries at all - will do exactly that the moment I get home in a couple of hours ;-)

Line stats below. It would appear that line is capable of 15360 kbps at best. However, is it an unreasonable expectation then - for me to expect 15Mbps from a product advertised as 'up to 24Mbps'?? Just ran another speedtest just now - resulting in a d/l speed of 10.74Mbps.

    attenuation downstream: 248 0.1db

    attenuation upstream: 106 0.1db

This doesn't look right, maybe your line or modem are faulty?
The max attenuation should be about 65db

    What modem are you using?
