I've being using Dipethane additive for a few years now in my 530D and it's running top notch. A motor assessor said its a waste of money at €35/5 litres and I should add 2litres of vegetable oil every fill, this isn't a joke. I've been doing this for the last 1000 miles no bother. He says the veg oil keeps the injectors cleas as a whistle. Anyone using this or know anything about it?

From what I understand, commonrail doesn't take kindly to SVO. Working on high pressure, it needs the diesel to be as fluid as possible. Unless you have a pre heater in the tank, veg oil is slightly more viscous an may cause problems with the injectors and the pump itself. Not only that, the fuel filter will clogg up easier and the DPF mightn't be happy...

Don't get me wrong, some fuels have veg oil in them, just not enough to cause problems :)

"Motor assessor" is a fraud or he'd know vegetable oil'd wreck your 530D's CR injectors (1,000's to replace 6...)...

As you said yourself, your motor's running top notch - like my 320D's after 4 yrs using Dipethane.

Dipethane ftw - genius, effective, and CHEAP!

I used dipetane in the last car just before I sold it, was running a tiny bit lumpy but it made a world of difference. Is it as effective in etrol engines? And how often can you use it?

Yes it benefits petrol (gasoline) engines:

I use it every time I fill up (1:200).

2l in a tank wouldn't do any harm I'd say.

Knew a lad, ahem, who ran a van from new on kerosene and veg oil, no issues at all, still going strong after 12 years, but was old style diesel. CRD, I'd not use veg oil, systems too fine tuned and too high pressure. It will kill it eventually as it's just too viscous to be supercompressed through the injectors without giving the pump a hernia.
