    Hi All,

I'm a bride on a seriously tight budget so wondering if there are any student/new videographers out there looking to get some experience and build up their portfolio and would video the day for a very small sum??

We're getting married in Wicklow this December.

    Please pm me if interested!

    Thanks! :)

Try contacting the photography or equivalent society in the college nearest to you. They probably would have some budding talent...

You might get someone cheap but you certainly won't get someone to do it for free. Maybe you could offer them travel expenses and 2 meals for the day.

yeah i dont know if you'll get anything useful for little money!

even if you did get someone starting out - do they even realise whats involved?

Perhaps theres travel involved = expenses
There's consulting with you and the groom, attending the rehearsals, (so they know what you want, remember if they're only starting out, they may not be too sure whats involved in shooting a wedding!) meeting other people taking part in the wedding, priest eetc.
there'll probably be no contract between you (so no comeback for anybody)
Then what kind of gear will they have/need? one camera? maybe two or three, most videographers will have a minimum of two. Also backup gear.
What kind of audio will be available? If you get ok video with crappy hard to hear audio it ruins the whole film.
    have they got lighting?
Typically theres about 10 hours of filming which is only a portion of the time to be spent on the project.

Theres also the ingesting of the footage into a competent computer and then editing which could take anything up to 20/30 hours, after that theres rendering of the edited movie and finally authoring to a DVD etc.

all this cost time, money and resources.

so really, who is going to spend all that time for free or very little, add overheads and costs and surely anyone with any sense wouldn't hire a videographer that charges so little????

I know people have to start someplace but this is a once only event, theres lots of 'lowballers' out there, but you need to be happy with the finished result, otherwise you've wasted money that you cant afford.
Unfortunately I've seen photographs from some people that just weren't up to the standard and caused a lot of grief to the B&G and their families, but because a relative or friend done them there was nothing they could do about it.

this is not aimed at the OP, but I do think at times that some people undervalue photography/videography as far as weddings go, like they wont ask the florist for a few weeds or whatever, or the caterer for some leftovers, the limo to drop them off at the church for free coz he's passing that way etc. etc.

    rant over :)

    apologies for the long post
    anyway
whatever you do good luck with the wedding
