You'd really want the speeds of USB 3 to be dealing with data that size, unless you fancy waiting all day to get your stuff on there. The second link quotes speeds of 8MB/s. That would take over two hours to fill. Might be okay for storage that you're just reading from now and again, but not for transferring large amounts of data. The first one doesn't have any speeds listed but we know it's definitely under 40MB/s, possibly quite a bit.

not the same thing though is it?

not to mention you'd have to be nucken futs to buy flash memory off ebay these days. if you do actually end up with something of the right capacity, there's still a good chance it's going to be a cheap knock off and neither ebay or paypal gives two hoots about it.

Like anything, different horses for different courses depends on what you want to use it for and what speeds your happy with..

 I can see where you are coming from but with a 390309 feedback score with 99.3% rating, The Hut are far from a cheap knock off company ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hut_Group ....

I never said it was the same, i simply offered a cheaper alternative which may suit other peoples needs.....

I've been using a 32Gb version of this on a daily basis for almost 3 years- no issues to report (aside from my having lost the cap for the drive). Add to this- MemoryC are an Irish company, based in Celbridge- you're paying Irish VAT to an Irish company- rather than a UK or other company- and all is even better.

If anything does go wrong- MemoryC are the best company I've had to deal with for replacements etc- no hesitation in recommending them.

the last sd card i bought off ebay was from a UK based platinum powerseller with over 100,000 feedback and over a 99% positive score, but it was still fake.

it was supposed to be a sandisk extreme card, but it was just a nicely boxed knock-off.

i contacted the seller and he swore blind it was a one off error on the part of his supplier, but when I asked for a replacement and said i would be testing it, he refused and would only offer a refund. i contacted ebay and paypal, but they refused to deal with it as the seller had offered a refund.

that was the 2nd time i had a fake card off ebay and the last time i used them to buy any kind of flash memory. any small saving you might make is negated by the high probability of fraud, so i'd much rather put my money in a seller i trust and that isn't anyone on ebay.

incidentally, i also contacted sandisk and they didn't seem all that bothered either, which was a little odd, but they said they just don't have the resources to chase these things up.

What's wrong with a refund? The seller probably could no longer offer the original price given that it was based on cards that weren't up to scratch. If they brought in better quality ones, the new batch would be more expensive.

I'd say you'd be safe enough with thehut. I didn't know that they had an ebay page but I've ordered from sendit loads of times and xavvi a few times. Their prices are lower because they don't charge VAT; they're based in Guernsey - which is something to bear in mind when ordering anything expensive as you will get charged at customs. Having an ebay page just means they're extending their reach. There's many different sellers and there's no need to write them all off.

Memoryc also has my recommendations if anyone is wondering about them - quick to sort out problems and local in Kildare. That said, I'd still question the speed of the drives. USB 3 is amazing when dealing with large data sizes.

Jaysus I had a laptop only a few years ago that had a 40GB harddrive.

Amazing the advancements in storage technology

what was wrong with a refund was that an ebay platinum powerseller was selling fake (retail boxed, branded) sandisk memory cards and must have been doing so for some time and intended to keep doing so as he would not offer a replacement as he knew full well that would also be fake and i would know right away if he did.

who knows how many people he conned with fake cards and sticks, both before and after my sale and it seems like i was the only person who had any interest at all in stopping him. :(

    got caught twice with ebay
once with a 64gb usb drive which was so much like the real
thing until you connect it your pc
the seller assured me before i bought it was real despite the
    great price i was getting
    and the psp memory card
got refunded for both but never in a million years would i buy
any memory from ebay ever again (or razor blades :)
i rarely even use ebay anymore

the first pc i bought myself had a 1.2gb hard drive and the ones i learnt to use at college had 20mb ones. :D

even better than that, my dad had an Apple IIe that had no hard drive at all, just two 5.25" floppy drives, one for your OS and the other for whatever app you wanted to use at the time. :)

ah, the good old days. :p

waits for someone older and crustier to come along....

I think the point being that you can always add up a few smaller capacity drives for cheaper. Since storage devices have been available this has been the case. Same with hard drives.
The whole point of a 128gb is the large size.

Think I'll hold out for a USB 3 version down the line.

Would give another thumbs up for memory.com. I used them a few times and they're always great.
