Swapping Out Interior...

I've an '06 Peugeot 407 ST 1.6 TDi with the standard upholstery seats. However, I've always wanted a *decent* leather interior and, since passing my NCT yesterday, I plan on keeping the car for another few years.

I am able to get a "full" leather interior in the same colour (dark grey) from a breakers yard. I believe the donor to be one of the executive petrol models available in the UK, but I'm confident from what I've read around that it'll be a perfect fit. For ~€600 I'd be getting all seats, door cards and the leather handrest / console part. I've been assured they're in absolute pristine condition. They're also the electric seats which I don't currently have, but I believe that the requisite looms etc. should be present in my own 407.

I'm not totally sold on the price as of yet (although I think it's a good price), but does anyone have any advice on how difficult it would be to swap out all the seats? How about the electrics, the airbags in the seats themselves, the Peugeot on-board computer acting up when swapping these components, etc.?

    Thanks in advance!

Speaking from a VAG point of view it's a pretty easy task. One problem you may encounter is that the air bag plugs will be different (or maybe this is a VAG only quirk lol) if so just cut the plugs of your old seats and fit them to the newer seats - i've done this this in the past just by splicing them together - airbags work of resistance so connector blocks won't work.

If the looms for the electrics are already there then you are blessed,if not i would leave the wiring to a competent auto electrician.

When disconnecting Air bag connectors make sure the key isn't in the ignition.

600 euro does sound a bit steep for a leather interior unless it's particularly rare or in pristine condition. You are really only paying for the seats things like doorcards aren't really worthy of a price increase IMO unless the are rare of course.

Thanks for the reply - will definitely take the electrics into account. I'll have a scour around under my existing seats and see if there are free looms there. If there are, then I'll check what the connections are on them vs. the 407 electric seats. I'd imagine they're the same, since it's the same car (even the same year) and there's only one type of electric seat.

The €600 includes delivery from mainland UK (about €90 of that is delivery) - what do you think a more fair price would be? I'd like to be able to get them down in price to a "fair" number, if reasonable.

Finally, given that it's coming from a used-car would / should the breaker's yard certify the airbags? If not, what's the best (read: safest) way to get them fully checked?

    Thanks again!

I think some of your questions would be better answered on a Peugot owners club forum, there might even be a DIY for removing seats etc already available - try googling it for the craic.

I suppose 500 odd for a good leather interior is not so bad - but i guess only you can decide that.Is the breakers reputable ? is it off Ebay? As you are buying on the strength of pics.

Yes, it's off eBay but I've been in touch with them over e-mail about specifics. I'm going off their reputation and the strength of the pics (they do look in fantastic condition). Unfortunately, I've searched high and low for info on removing seats and have also posted on some Peugeot Owners' forums but haven't got a single reply at all :(

Thanks for your help so far!
