As per title folks. The car on start up wont take the revs even when throttle is applied, it will rev a bit but in no way the way it should.
After about 10 mins of driving normal power and rev range is resumed. Its my uncles car he would like to have some idea of what the issue is before he brings it to the garage. He is a tight ass:D

Car is well serviced with 50k on it but only does short spins. From what I have read it could be
    1.Diesel filter
    2.Egr valve
    3.Maf
4.Ecu may need software update(could be pricey)

Anyone out there have any knowledge or have George Dalton or Nissan Doctor come across this before?
    Thanks

    Hi,

The same was happening to my avensis d4d. Turned out the EGR was pretty well gunked up.

The stealership quoted me 220 +vat to fix it. I did it my self and it was real easy. I had to take out the air intake box, battery, and clamp the two coolant hoses going into the valve.

After that its just 3 bolts, a little bit of wriggling, and out she comes!

A good clean with a toothbrush and some diesel sorted it out.

It could be also one of the coolant temp sensors telling the car that it is hot when it isn't. This will make the mixture too lean, and cause a lack of revs and power. If you know your way around the engine bay try unplugging the sensors one by one.

Eitherway, forget the stealership and bring it to your friendly local indie if you dont fancy having a poke around yourself!

Also, an ECU software update shouldn't be pricey.

It is as simple as the dealer plugging in the computer, hitting update, job done.

The dealers seem to want to make as much money as possible from equipment they need to have anyway. I dont know when a good customer experience seemed to gout the window in favour of cash.

On a modern diesel used for just short spins(completely unsuited to purpose but that's another thread) then the EGR or DPF will be the first to get clocked and cause issues. From memory, I don't think the 1.4 d4d's have a DPF so EGR is likely next.

Is the car slow to start or does it start on the button?

You could have the ECU scanned for faults as faults can be recorded without throwing the EML light.

I thought it sounded a bit like a "drive by wire" fault from the first description, that would be a fault with the throttle pedal.

If it is the EGR, my advise would be to dispense with the wretched valve altogehter. They result in this problem (especially with short spins and granny driving), dirty up the oil quicker, hurt MPG, shorten engine life and generally are an all round PITA.There are kits available to blank off the valve port or install a dummy valve body. You'll need to get the ECU patched also at a diesel service center to suppress error codes and MILs. Does not effect NCT emissions test as it only measures smoke. If anything it helps it pass.Same goes for those bloody DPFs, AdBlue etc.
