I got a Boardman Team Carbon. According to the specs, it’s got a 50/34 compact chainset, and a Shimano CS-5600 12-25 10-speed cassette.

I have no idea what this means but have been told for racing I should change it , any suggestons ?

    It's borderline I'd say. 50/12 at a cadence of 100rpm is 52kph. At a cadence of 110 its 57kph.

I'd do a race or two and see if you're spinning out. If so, get an 11-23 cassette.

The problem with running a 50 x 12 and using the rpm = speed that Vlad uses is that you are (I would imagine) very close to the limit and if you need to bury yourself for a min or 2 you are spinning like a crzy thing whereas with a 53 and in say 14 or 13 or even a slow cadence 12 you have another gear or the room to pick up you cadence signicantly.
