I wouldnt buy an LG or A samsung...terrible lifespan....look good when working and smooth menus etc but have seen plenty of them pack in with 2-3yrs

Panny's may not be friendly if they are not Saorview approved.

Its always a risk buying a TV that is reported to work with Saorview but which is not officially approved, as it could stop working with any update.

I own a Panny btw that isn't approved but works ok. For now!

The panasonic year 2012 range for UK/Ireland is saorview approved.

There is maybe a risk with year 2010 and 2011 TV's and there are the known problems with the ranges from 2008 and 2009.

2010 era Pannys do everything bar MHEG5. Course if they stop working for any reason there is no chance Panasonic will issue a firmware update. :(

You can say that of ANY current products though. Also mostly they are not repairable.
Sale of Goods act it has to last AT LEAST 2 years.

I just fixed a 73 year old radio yesterday. Tidying the cabinet was more work than the electronics (4 easily spotted capacitors). Hilariously it's large battery pack would have lasted 300 hours. A Tesco DAB set claims 6 hrs, I measure 4 to 5 depending on volume setting with good Alkaline cells.

BTW a cheap portable radio in the 1950s was about equivalent price in real terms to 48" HD TV today. Now you can't actually buy decent radios at all really... but that's another story.

    What's failing on the tvs?

I've found the radios in my mobile phones to be much better than those in many mp3 players or dedicated radios.

Any difference between plasma and led or lcd for reliability?
