    hey...
Lately i was told that by january 31st 2013, gumshields MUST be worn by all GAA players during training and during matches...i think its because insurance companies will not cover oral damage anymore or somethin like that...did anyone else hear this? i think it was on the irish independent...

I wish referees would check players helmets

Some of them have barely any bars left

Back on track .. yeah all underage upto minor have to wear gumshields in 2013 ...... We got a guy in to mould individual shields for our lads, think he charged 8 notes ... nothing worse than an ill-fiiting gum shield. Hated them flopping around yer mouth ... ooh missus

Good idea. It's very easy to lose teeth. Swinging elbows etc.

just back to the hurling helmets again...even if there are no bars missing it is still possible to get the top of the hurley in the mouth...it is a very low possibility because of the akwardness in the way it is done but yet it is still a possibility...dental treatment can cost in between 3,000-5,000 and a gumshield costs 50 quid....it doesnt take much thinkin....

Yeah even without removing the bars. The incident with Henry Shefflin a few years ago when Shefflin got the hurley through the facegaurd going for a high ball, although that was his eye that got hit,it shows that it can easily happen.

From my own experience, one lad in training broke a front tooth while wearing a helmet. He went to block a lad and the hurley followed through and hit the facegaurd. Wasnt a pretty sight!

Its only one horizontal bar that actually protects the mouth

This was passed in Congress back in April - where were ya like?? :D

Up to and including minor from 2013, everyone from 2014. It will be interesting to see the fine print of the rule, like can fellas take the gumshield out for taking shots at goal etc

Ladies actually had this motion two years ago at their congress and didn't pass it, as there wasn't enough insurance claims going into justify it
