    Move if wrong forum.

Is it possible to download free software trial versions onto a disk and transfer onto another computer?

Reason is I have an older Dell desktop (work computer) that my Vodafone dongle won't work on, (SP issue I was told. Think it is Service Pack 1). Only internet connection would be dial up:eek:, so not an option. Dont want to use this laptop as would tie up our only link to the outside world as I need to learn the program at night and that will take full 30 days.
Or can I download and transfer the most updated SP version onto old computer and solve all problems at once?

I know it's a real newbie query but I only know what I need to know kinda thing and learn this stuff, when needed, from you experts as required:D

In most cases you will be fine, the trial installer will install on any number of machines, and begin the trial once launched on that particular machine. However trials which require you register a serial number and activate the trial may not work properly, for the most part it should work fine for you :)

If the Dell is reasonably old you might want to make sure that its capapble of running whatever software you're trialing first.

Yes, you can download service pack 3 onto usb memory stick using the laptop, then copy from the memory stick to the desktop, then run sp3 on the desktop to update it and thus install your vodafone dongle.

However given that the machine is sp1 at the min it may struggle RAM wise, i.e. it may be slower once sp3 is installed.

    People,
    Thanks for the replies.

Firblog, I like that solution as it would solve all my problems and give this computer back to the OH.

Is there any preferred site that would let me download SP3?
Is it just a case of download, transfer and copy paste to other computer?

The Dell is an Dimension 4600, about 7 years old but in top nick, feck all on it bar CAD and associated work files.
