    HI all,

I'm running OSX Leopard (10.5.8) at the moment and am thinking of upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion.

It seems I'll have to first upgrade to OSX Snow Leopard, then Lion then finally to Mountain Lion.

I'm wondering can I get a copy of a friends OSX Snow Leopard Disk, upgrade using that then download the Lion and Mountain Lion from the apple store.

Will this cause either of us any problems?

If you'd recommend not doing it this way, does anyone know where I can get a cheap legit copy of Snow Leopard?

    Cheers,

    Clanket

Just upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.7) and from there you can purchase and upgrade to Mountain Lion. No need to get Lion - it's not available anymore anyway.

And yes, using your friend's SL disc will work fine. It's technically a breach of Apple's EULA, but since they aren't selling SL anymore they aren't really giving you any choice.

Thanks Sad Professor. I hope he still has the Snow Leopard disks.

If he doesn't is the only place I'll get in on adverts or some other site?

The latest version of Snow Leopard is 10.6.8 and I'm fairly sure you must have that installed before you can upgrade to either Lion or Mountain Lion.

Earlier OS installation discs/sticks can be ordered from Apple.

I can't find Snow Leopard anywhere on the Apple website. It's like they're saying if you don't have SL, then tough, you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Just rang Apple on 1800 92 38 98 and you can buy it from them. €29
