Heres one for you lads...farming ads websites are done to death, farmads, haybay, machinery-seller, or whatever its called, donedeal, buy and sell , adverts.ie....I reckon we need a means of BUYING smart...some sort of price comparision site for stuff like farm medicines, pour-ons, even stuff like replacement machinery parts which could be posted / couriered.
I've a real gripe with animal meds. cos its difficult to compare like with like..2 litres of pouron might be say €50..take it home and find it treats say 50 animals, thats one euro / head, whereas a different product costing € 50 may treat 80 animals.
Would be nice if the price quoted was on a 'per animal treated' basis.
At least we could consider a sticky running posts from farmers who got a bit of value out there..

and the per animals basis - would it be a 400kilo animal or a 650kilo animal. Always have to look at the active ingredient and strength of it in the jar be it animal medicine/spray/fertiliser whatever. Jasus the buy has to be some bit aware themselves

Go to Google. Enter the product name. Go to "Advanced search" (press on the cog like icon). Go down to "File Type", pick "Adobe Acrobat PDF (.pdf)" and then press "Advanced search".

Not always, but more often than not you'll quickly find a printable/downloadable version of the product label you're after. On that label you should find the information you need re animals treated based on weight etc., then in the words of Scary Mary "shop around" for the best price once you're happy with your product choice.

Sure shop around, but for something like a hoose treatment, then its a PITA--pour-on (2 types), injection, oral...start trying to do a price comparison in the co-op on a Saturday morning, you won't be too popular with the queue building up behind... then you run up to the Vets and start again...got to be a better way...

Make it a standard 'livestock unit' - not too difficult...then everyones singing from the same Abba lyrics..

What I do is I price it for 500kgs of liveweight so if it is 1cc/50 kgs that is a 10cc shot out of a 500mls bottle say 30 euro's that is 60 cent/head. if it is 2.5cc/50kgs out of a 250mls bottle costing 20 euro's that is 2 euro's. By the way f##k the queue it is your money. I never buy in the co-op/vet if I can avoid it there are online websites or independant retailers.

Eg ivermectin's in the local co-op is 50-60 euro's/ 500mls 9 (Animec it is spelled I think) Independant retailer that will post it (3X500mls & 1X250 bimectin) 100 euro's and will throw in a few needles and syringes. Agri merchant shop I pass now and again Kilomec 500mls 30 euro's.

I do not use pour-on too expensive what if it is wet and also I find them inaccurate as you either use the little measureing bottle or else have to change the applicator gun if the weights are different easier to run along the chute with a bottle and syringe
