    hi,

i'm contemplating making a purchase from China and the guy said he accepts paypal.

so far so good i'm feeling safer because of this but what i want to know is how should i proceed?

should i get the guy to send me an invoice (via Paypal) with the details of the purchase in the invoice so that if the item that arrives is not as described i can go through paypal to get the money back or does that matter with Paypal and are the e-mails back and forth between us good enough to stand up should it come to it?

i just want to make sure that if i order a phone from this guy and a brick turns up int he post that i have some sort of comeback?

any suggestions to make this a safe transaction would be appreciated.

sorry i see this question has been asked before and i've read some answers which basically say USE EBAY or you are not really protected.

    i also read this

    Shipment Is Not as Described!

PayPal Scams don't necessary have to use eBay, one common scam uses auction sites such as Ioffer.com or any other ecommerce site, that accept PayPal. The seller will sell any item and send a completely different item. Once the buyer receives the item, they will start a dispute claiming that they received a different item. PayPal will award the seller the money, because PayPal does not protect any selling done on any other site besides eBay. It will protect you if you have not received the item, but if the item is not what was described, you will be not protected.
    Solution
Avoid buying from unknown sites that have zero to little reputation. Reputation is key when it comes to buying. If you have already been sent an item and it is not what was described, negotiate with the seller and try to work something out.

The bit in bold is actually old information, PayPal do now protect all purchases, made either on ebay or not.
