Claiming Tax Back New Zealand Working Holiday Visa

    Hi,

I need help claiming my tax back from the IRD (Inland Revenue Department, New Zealand).

I have been on their site and it's all a bit confusing. As far as I can gather I have to fill out an IR3 (NR) form and post it off. The problem with this is that I am currently travelling round New Zealand by van and have no "fixed address" for them to post back any details to me. Even if I did have an address the process might take too long.

Does anyone know if there is an office I can go in and talk to them and get it processed there and then (though I realise I won't receive the money immediately)?

Also, has anyone any experience in doing this and knows exactly what I am supposed to do? It's just tricky when you don't have an address to post out to.

We have our proof of departure and receipts for our tickets. We have our IRD numbers and bank account numbers.

We know there is an office in the Airport (conveniently) but we need this to be processed before we leave as we will want to close our NZ bank accounts before leaving the country.

Any help would be kindly appreciated.

    Hey there!

Every year i say i will lodge my own taxes, but IRD confuses the heck out of me and their help desk reps are quite rude.

I use mytax.co.nz every year and find them amazing!

    Maybe worth a try?
They take 10% commission but the process is really quick and only takes like 2 days.

Hey, I just saw the post about tax back only taking 2 days. Damn! Does anyone know the general wait time at this time of year for receiving a tax back claim? I applied in the IRD office in Wellington 3 and a half weeks ago. The lady said the wait time is 8-10 weeks but then she said it never takes that long. I'm due to leave NZ in 2 weeks time do if it's definitely not going to come through before I go, I'll just get it posted back home to Ireland instead.

I used to do mine online on the IRD website. You need to register on it and phone them to confirm. It can a bit confusing at first but once you find the right link its actually really easy.

Used to take around 5 mins to complete and money would be in my account 4-5days sometimes less.
