    Hi.

Would appreciate some help on this.

Google answers appear contradictory and possibly outdated.

I was very low on disk space and was prompted by my laptop to remove some of the rarely used programmes from my c:drive.

I deleted a few unused student/multimedia components of Microsoft Office.

One such large file was described as "Microsoft Office Publisher" or something along those lines. I thought it was safe to uninstall (was definitely described as "rarely used" and hadn't been used since 07, but after I did so and had restarted my laptop I noted Word, Excel and PPT were gone.

A few points which may help -

Yes - I definitely uninstalled it and didn't just delete the desktop icon
Yes - I restarted my laptop and cannot to a system restore (not switched on I think)
Yes - I have a product key but no disks. The laptop was a Smurfit School purchase - to my recollection it came with Microsoft Student fully pre-installed. There is a product key on the bottom of the machine.
    No - I didn't back up
Yes - I am an idiot for not backing up

I tried just contacting Microsoft Helpdesk but it says even querying how to re-order will cost $72????

    Appreciate all help

    Thanks

Make & model of the PC or laptop.

Most of these computers have a way to restore to factory default (DO NOT do this, you don't have to), and part of the service, you can use CDs/DVDs to make an external backup.

The advantage of these CDs, once made, you can go into Windows, put in the "applications" CD/DVD, and reinstall Office (most of the time).

Just because a program is "rarely used" doesn't mean that it not important, other programs maybe dependent on it.Rule of thumb is if is a MS app don't delete. I'm sure therer was other stuff you could have remove such as videos or pics.

You don't need to fork out 72 euro, LiberOffice is free, it used by millions of people around the world, and compatible with MS Office

The serial number on the bottom of your laptop is for windows only, not office. Check the literature/cds that came with the machine for a card with a certificate and office serial number, if you have that you can re-download office and install it (here). If not, you'll probably have to go the libreoffice route or purchase office again...

    Magic Jelly Bean - http://download.cnet.com/Magical-Jelly-Bean-Keyfinder/3000-18487_4-10079600.html

Download and run it - it'll get you the serial key that you need.
