Faulty Screen?

    Hi,

I have a 4 year old HP Pavillion DV-5 which I got back in 2008, it runs Vista and I am very happy with it as it is a very nice laptop.

Recently over the last 4 months the screen has been giving trouble and it has really intensified over the last 6 weeks.

Quite often the screen will start flickering and then go black, after I open and close the lid it might come back and quite often I will have to open and close the lid maybe two dozen times to get it back and at full brightness. Sometimes the screen is half lit and you would sometimes see it just go dark and you could see the LCD and icons just the screen is not lit.

I am not sure if it is the screen itself, the backlight or maybe even the screen power supply.

Anyone encounter something like this before?

sounds like a dodgy inverter. shouldnt be too dear to repair if you leave it in somewhere.

i find if you sound like you know what your on about going into these repair shops they are less likely to try and rip you off.

its a small job. not tough at all. take the rubber parts off with a small screwdriver, and then seperate the screen casing at the seem with a wide flat head screwdriver. the inverter is the small thin long circuit board looking device on the below the screen.

if you go on ebay and type in your laptop model number and 'inverter' after it, you should get one cheap. eg "acer aspire 5542 inverter"

or if youre in the galway area let me know. i can have a look for ya.

any questions ill do my best to help.
