Dublin junctions with "missing" pedestrian crossing signals

Why isn't there any pedestrian crossing signals at these crossing?:

    • Outside Cineworld on Parnell Street - see Street View, dropped kerbs but no lines or pedestrian signals
    • Christchurch junction on the Winetavern Street side -- see Street View, dropped kerbs and lines but no pedestrian signals

It's confusing for all road users and it's not even clear to motorists / cyclists / motorcyclists that there are no pedestrian lines -- often you get them thinking that the pedestrians are j-walking when they are not. Both of the above are busy roads and have high levels of pedestrians.

Yes it is bizarre, all the thousands of people who cross this junction from Henry St to Cineworld and The Woolshed every day. I'm surprised someone hasn't been killed here.

The first set is possibly seen as not requiring lights because of the traffic island and the sequence of the lights which may give pedestrians plenty of time to cross?

The next example is probably due to low numbers using that crossing?

The cineworld junction is madness, there's a traffic island there, but the sequence of lights means there's always a possibility of a car going through the lights. Considering the amount of stupid places that have pedestrian crossings, this definitely needs one.

Or vehicles need to give way to pedestrians crossing a road

Re 22.(2), I've been tooted at by cars wanting to turn left into a side road that I am crossing as a pedestrian. Was told once that peds have pretty much zero right of way. Finally I can throw the Rule Book in drivers' faces. Thanks, carawaystick!

The law isn't going to be of much comfort when you are rolling over the bonnet of a car that has just come around the corner and didn't see you.

The Christchurch junction is lethal, someone will be injured or even killed there. There are always hordes of tourists trying to cross and traffic comes from all angles and often at considerable speed. In particular cars coming over the hill have very little visibility and are often concentrating on getting into the proper lane.
