    In a hotel or b&b

To be perfectly honest- its the busiest week of the year normally in Galway- this year of course eclipsed by the Volvo Ocean Race. If you are genuinely looking for accommodation at this short notice, and have no advance bookings- you're in trouble.

Call around all the hotels, its possible (but unlikely) that they may have cancellations. The further you go out of town (up the headford road for example) the more likely you might be to find vacancies in B&Bs. In town the Harbour Hotel and a few other places may be able to accommodate you. You're going to have to chase this yourself.
