2012 Irish Mule 2 euro coin?

    Hi all,

    The coin on the left is from the 2012 proof set; the one on the right is an ordinary coin. Their main differences are
    1) The word “Eire” on the proof coin has no spaces between each letter.
    2) The year '2002 2012' on the proof coin is in a slim font.

    I'm not an expert in this; can anyone confirm this is indeed a mule coin?

    Not a mule I think; it may be just that they have come from different Mints?

    We don't mint the proof coins in Ireland only the circulation issues, so yes it would be a different mint. A completely different die would be used for the proofs. Anyway this has nothing to do with the term 'mule', a mule is a coin/medal who's obverse or reverse is incorrect for the type. In this case it's correct for the type, because all the proofs are the same done one way and all the circulation ones are the same done a different way. But each are correct for their respective type.
