I noticed that too ... I was letting the cats out at about 2.30am and spent a few minutes looking around the back garden to check that someone's security light wasn't on it was that bright.

I understood that if a second full moon occured within the same calendar month, that the second full moon was refered to as the Blue Moon, but I am open to correction.

    hi everyone,

the Moon was dramatic last night, low above the treetops from Rathgar when walking home from the local ;-)

As you mention Pat, the definition mostly used now (including in my August notes) is that the 2nd Full Moon is the Blue Moon.

However, Nux is more correct based on the article at http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/objects/moon/3304131.html?showAll=y&c=y which looks at the origin of the term in more detail.

I agree though with the closing remarks in the article that regardless of what definition we use, it's a cause to celebrate just another facet of lovely Luna in lore and vista.

    John
