    my friend has a 220d mercedes,01 reg which puts out a bit of white smoke when he gives her a bit of rev and he was wondering would changing the EGR VALVE do anything to help get rid of it?the car is driving 100%,55 mpg around town and has no other complaints but someone told him about this valve or whatever and now he dosent know what to do.my advise to him was leave well enough alone but im no mecanic.

    White smoke on revving sounds a lot like headgasket gone.
    Shouldn't be too bad, if the coolant level didn't drop too much and the engine didn't cook, straight replacement should be fine. Might want to get the head skimmed just to be sure.

    no problem with headgasket or coolant level or temp or anything like that and car driving fine,no loss of power or anything like that just a touch of smoke.

    Not too bad then. Mine was trailing James Bond-esque smoke screen behind it.
    Once that happens, start worrying.
    Is the car maybe only driven on occasional, short trips? Could be condensation.
    Try a good hour long motorway blast (hour either way), also a good excuse for a nice weekend outing.
