Laptop for postgrad

    Hi All,
I am looking for some advice. I am returning to college this year to do a postgrad and I need to purchase a laptop for this. I would like something light, quick to turn on, fast browser and easy to use. I would ideally love a macbook but unfortunatley this is out of my budget. I have a budget of 600e but can stretch it for the right laptop. I would like a laptop which I will have for years rather than just while I do the postgrad. I would use a laptop for surfing the net, watching programmes etc on online players and for work (powerpoint/email/documents/reports etc) at present. I have an old Dell (purchased in 2005) and a basic acer (purchased in New Zealand in 2007) but both of these are quite slow and have problems so I would like to invest in a good laptop. I have looked online and came across a Dell Inspiron Ultrabook which looks good but my reservation is that it has 5400rpm hard drive, would this be fast enough?
I would appreciate any/all advice you can give me.
